Ashley Murphy and Molly Graves are the masterminds behind NEAT Method – a lifestyle service committed to providing a more luxurious and smartly appointed living space. The duo united during a fateful shopping trip in San Francisco. Both newly relocated from the Windy City, they bonded over a shared affinity for clutter-free, organized spaces within their homes. Ultimately, the friends created their business venture and today, have expanded NEAT Method into a multi-city business transforming their clients’ spaces from chaotic to composed. Read more for the full story and some of their expert organization tips.

I first knew I wanted to be a professional organizer when…
Molly: I moved to San Francisco, my teaching certificate wasn’t valid so I had to transition to something new. I always knew I was good at being NEAT so I started seeking out the opportunity to work in the organizing space.
Ashley: As a previous personal trainer, I realized that in order for my clients to see the changes they were looking for, they needed to be healthy in their home in order to fully focus on being healthy with themselves. This focus launched my organizing career and shortly after, I moved to San Francisco where I met Molly.

A tip I always leave clients with to STAY organized is…
Be conscious of how much you are actually bringing into your home. When you start to realize how much you bring in, it makes it easier to take things out.

The organizing task I am most often called to do is…
We get asked to complete client’s closets the most. People love to have that space completed because it makes starting and ending the day easier. Having an organized closet gets you on the right foot to start your day and people classically say they “have nothing to wear” until their closet is perfectly organized.

The biggest organizing challenge we have had is…
Working with a couple that doesn’t see eye to eye. Typically, one person likes to get rid of things more than the other. To balance what both parties want takes experience and even then it can still be difficult to mediate.

My favorite spring cleaning task is…
Molly: Doing a massive closet donation. It is so easy to hold on to clothes and committing to the purge feels so good and makes things fresh again!
Ashley: I love going through and getting rid of any expired spices, medicines and makeup/products that I haven’t touched for the year. It’s the easiest thing to do and doesn’t take making a decision. If it’s expired, it should leave the house.

One thing you would be surprised to know about me is…
Molly: I hoard an obscene amount of lip gloss. For some reason, I feel like I can never have enough and it always seems like a good time to buy a new one!
Ashley: That my husband and I have ordered pizza essentially every Friday night for the past 15 years.

When I’m not on a mission to help others live the NEAT life, you’ll find me…
Molly: With my family. I love spending time with my two boys and my extended family at our lake house in Wisconsin.
Ashley: Hanging with friends and family every chance I get.

The thing in spring I’m most looking forward to is…
Molly: Spending more time outside!
Ashley: Opening the windows for fresh air and the smell of Spring.

My go-to Laundress product is…
We love the Travel Pack! We are always on the go and this little kit literally has everything you could ever need in a pinch while on the road.

A quick and easy NEAT Method tip is…
If you are ready to get organized and do yourself a favor and ORGANIZE first then, go purchase baskets, bins, and drawer inserts. Too often people do it the other way around and end up with solutions that do not work. You must get all like things together then find a proper “home.”
