The Laundress co-founders Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd welcomed John Mayer to The Laundress flagship store Thursday, September 29, to celebrate the launch of The Laundress X John Mayer Laundry Detergent and Fabric Fresh. We’re recapping the entire evening in a full event roundup.
Gwen worked alongside prop stylist and set designer Charlie Welch to make the window at The Laundress flagship store look like a window into John Mayer’s soul. Inspired by a love for textiles that John shares with Gwen and Lindsey, the window soon became an intimate reflection of John’s world, complete with pieces from New York City-based leather fashion house Libra Leather along with some of John’s everyday clothing, a few pieces from his vintage archives, and even a mahogany guitar from his collection of instruments. Fans may even recognize a few of the items from past album covers!
The ambiance was set with custom OUT WEST scented candles from fragrance production and design studio Joya. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Joya quickly created a candle collection that burned all night long, filling the shop with the captivating OUT WEST scent.
To keep in line with the American West theme, Frank & Eileen, one of our favorite clothing lines specializing in modern twists on classic staples, outfitted The Laundress team with Classic Blue Wash Italian Indigo Denim shirts. Switzerland-based luxury clothing collection HANRO equipped us with the Sea Island Cotton Short Sleeve Crew Neck t-shirt for John’s I am The Laundress look.
A playlist with some of John’s favorite musicians and bands, including Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, and Crosby, Stills & Nash, serenaded fans as they joined John for a meet and greet. You can still listen to the OUT WEST playlist now on Spotify.
The weather threatened to rain on our parade, but inside the little shop on the corner of Prince and Macdougal, Gwen, John, and Lindsey celebrated their passion project supporting the Montana Association of Land Trusts (MALT) coming to life.
Gwen and Lindsey lent a hand in handwashing one of John’s favorite visvim t-shirts over Cadillac Margaritas, of course. The live demonstration was also caught on film, so stay tuned for the release.
With a Grammy-Award winning artist in the house, a jam session was bound to happen. John taught Gwen and Lindsey how to play the guitar and… well, see for yourself!
While snapping photos, the crowd collected outside in anticipation of meeting John Mayer.
And there were party favors… obviously! Attendees went home with “loads” of Laundress loot, including The Laundress X John Mayer Laundry Detergent and Fabric Fresh Duo in an event-exclusive canvas tote bag.
Couldn’t make it? Check out the sizzle reel from the launch party!
Washing For A Cause: 50% of the proceeds from the sales of The Laundress X John Mayer will benefit the Montana Association of Land Trusts (MALT), a group of nonprofit land trust organizations working to conserve the state’s landscape and retain the values that make Montana so profound.
