Everyone who knows The Laundress knows that we’re the experts in laundry and fabric care. But what you may not have known is that we’ve got the tips for cleaning your kicks too! With trips to the beach and morning runs, we’ll bet your flip flops, tennis shoes, and/or sneakers need a good scrub down with The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar, The Laundress Stain Solution and more.

Sneakers aren’t “sneaky” if they’re stinky

If your canvas sneakers are anything but clean, add some pep to their step by giving them a nice, sudsy bath. Before treating, always remove both liners. Next, pretreat the outside of both shoes by applying The Laundress Stain Solution directly to the fabric and sprinkling The Laundress All-Purpose Bleach Alternative onto the liquid solution. Use The Laundress Scrub Brush to work this powerful cleaning paste into stains.

Take the plunge and add your shoes to a bath of hot water and one capful of The Laundress Whites Detergent. Soak for at least 30 minutes and change dirty water as needed. The longer the soak, the brighter and cleaner the shoes! Rinse well at the soak’s completion until soapy water runs clear. Stuff sneakers with a Laundress Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth to absorb moisture and leave to sit overnight.

*If possible, air-dry shoes outside. The sunlight will naturally whiten!

Jump for joy over odor-free kicks

If odor is a constant issue, more routine maintenance may be required! Remove liners and add a Laundress Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth damp with The Laundress Scented Vinegar inside of the shoe. The Laundress Scented Vinegar will eliminate build-up, odors, and germs without replacing it with an off-putting, vinegary smell! While letting this sit, take both liners and work them with The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar. Rinse these well and air dry. Spritz the shoe between washing and wearing with The Laundress Sport Spray. Its anti-bacterial properties will nix odors!

Don’t run from tennis shoes issues, (pre)treat them

When cleaning traditional mesh tennis shoes, we opt for The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar to treat hard to reach areas and tricky layered fabrics. Start by removing all liners. Then lather The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar with hot water and gently work it into the outer mesh. If needed, you can further work in suds with a Laundress Stain Brush. Finish by wiping suds clean with a damp Laundress Lint-Free Cleaning Cloth. Leave to air dry and tada!

Fine tune flip flops

If footprints are left behind on much-worn flip flops or the thong portion is looking a bit discolored, treat with The Laundress Wash & Stain Bar. Simply lather the bar in hot water, work it into the sole and thong, and rinse. This method is appropriate and effective on rubber/canvas sandals.

When cleaning all plastic flip flops like Havaianas, you can add them to the dishwasher and use The Laundress Dish Detergent to disinfect and leave them sparkling clean.
